Dental X-Rays And Pediatric Dentistry

Even with an in-depth clinical oral exam, Dr. Jones can’t see every area of the tooth. For this reason, we rely on safe, low radiation kids dental x-rays. Children’s dental x-rays are essential for ensuring the proper development of your child’s teeth and that their oral health is healthy and sufficient. Since digital x-rays produce detailed images of the gums, teeth, and tooth roots, Dr. Jones is able to treat a variety of dental concerns including cavities, tooth decay, and infections. Children’s dental x-rays can also identify the need for braces or other orthodontic treatments and monitor the growth and development of your child’s teeth.

How Often Should My Child Receive Dental X-Rays?

While recommended every six months to a year, the frequency in which children should receive dental x-rays depends on several factors including their age, dental history, and overall oral health. A pretty common question we receive is what age to start x-raying children’s teeth. Your child’s first dental appointment should be scheduled right before their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth erupting. Depending on any risk factors or dental history your child may have for oral health concerns, Dr. Jones may suggest more frequent visits to monitor their development.

How Do Pediatric Dental X-Rays Work?

During a dental x-ray, a small amount of radiation is used to create high-quality images of the inside of your child’s teeth and gums. A small sensor will be placed inside the mouth where it will scan the bones and gums in just a few seconds. Once complete, the images will be uploaded to our computers for Dr. Jones to use in diagnosing and treating any dental concerns. Digital dental x-rays are more comfortable, accurate, and convenient than ever before! Since the first dental visit sets the tone for our young patients and how they feel about the dentist, we make it our top priority to create a calm, welcoming, fun environment so each child has a positive experience with us!
